Fertility, IVF and Pregnancy Loss Counselling FAQ
What's your specialism?

I am a trauma informed therapist passionate about working with women who are navigating fertility, IVF journeys, baby loss, secondary infertility, NICU experiences, trauma and prenatal and postpartum stress.   I also offer therapy for those with chronic conditions who require nervous system support.

In addition to this I work with couples and relationship issues, particularly surrounding infertility struggles or the postpartum identity shift.

Counselling is often a shorter to medium-term form of therapy, usually focused on current life difficulties. This might include things like feeling stuck, relationship stress, low confidence, anxiety, or navigating a specific life challenge.

It offers a space to slow down, explore what is happening for you, and begin to make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and patterns in a supportive and non-judgemental environment.

Psychotherapy is usually longer-term work that explores deeper patterns that may have developed over time. This can include long-standing anxiety or depression, trauma, childhood experiences, or relationship patterns that continue to affect how you feel today.

It allows for a deeper exploration of who you are, how you relate to yourself and others, and the experiences that have shaped you.

You don’t need to know this before starting therapy.

Many people come unsure about what they need, and we can explore this together. Some people prefer short-term focused support, while others choose longer-term work to explore deeper patterns and experiences.

I usually suggest starting with a few sessions and then reviewing together how it feels, so you can decide what pace and depth of work feels right for you.

Most people begin with weekly sessions, as this tends to support continuity and deeper therapeutic work. However, we can always discuss what feels manageable and realistic for your life.

Some people work for a shorter period around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy. We will regularly review how things are going so that the process continues to feel useful and supportive.

Fortnightly sessions are also possible, depending on your needs and availability.

Individual sessions are £65 for 50 minutes.
Couples sessions are £80 for 60 minutes.

If cost is a concern, you are welcome to discuss this with me.

Transactional Analysis is the approach I am trained in. It offers a way of understanding how we relate to ourselves and others, and how early experiences can shape the patterns we repeat in adult life.

It can be helpful for exploring identity, relationships, communication, and long-standing emotional patterns such as “life scripts” or internal conflicts.

I think this modality lends itself particularly to those going through fertility, baby loss and postpartum challenges.

People experiencing these challenges often have a strong internal critic attacking the inner child (vulnerable state).  We can deconstruct these inner parts by naming and becoming aware of them.  e.g “Why can’t my body just do what it’s supposed to do?” or  “I must have done something wrong in my past”. Together we can notice these internal thoughts, bring awareness to them and rewrite them to be more nurturing and compassionate.

In TA we also talk about the “life script”,  in early childhood most people unconsciously write a life script-a psychological blueprint for how their life will unfold (i.e. “I will grow up, meet a partner, buy and house and have children”). Infertility completely breaks this script.  By using TA we can take the pressure off this internal script formed in childhood-we can grieve this initial plan and safely give you permission to rewrite this narrative.  This allows you to navigate your present moment without feeling like your entire identity is broken.

If you are curious, I’m always happy to talk more about this in sessions or suggest further reading.

I am a BACP registered therapist and a member of UKATA (UK Association of Transactional Analysis). I work within their ethical frameworks and adhere to strict professional standards.

I have also completed a diploma in counselling with Transactional Analysis accredited by COSCA.

In addition I have a membership with BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association) and adhere to their ethical codes including adhering to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) Code of Practice.

Sessions can take place online, in person in 22 Drumsheugh Gardens in the West End of Edinburgh or outdoors through walk-and-talk therapy (weather permitting).

Many people find that working in nature feels grounding and supportive, but we can decide together what feels most comfortable for you

If you need to cancel a session, please let me know as soon as possible.

With enough notice, we can usually rearrange. Cancellations made without notice or missed sessions are charged in full.

You can book an introductory call with your preferred day and time.  I will phone you on your preferred number and if we are a good fit, we will book an initial consultation lasting 50 minutes.  From that point we can book weekly or fortnightly sessions.
